My Treatment

For my A2 media coursework I am creating a music video to Kate Nash’s song, ‘We Get On’. My group and I thought that this was a good choice as the story holds a narrative structure throughout the song. The singer tells her story to the audience so the audience is able to connect with her. For the video, we have some good and creative ideas as the lyrics are easy to visualize throughout the song.

For the music video we will have a visual representation of the lyrics so each scene will relate to what the song is about. It will therefore show a girl falling in love with a boy and wishing they could be together but she is scared of his reaction. She instead sings about her feelings for him and all the encounters they have had together. First of all, we will have the girl singing in a 1950’s bar as we are paying homage to Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. There will be a 50’s twist throughout the video surrounding the girl. In the bar scenes the girl will be singing the song on stage and this will be filmed in monochrome to show the change in time. When the girl then sings about her experiences with the guy she likes in hindsight, for example, “and that time you shook my hand, it felt so nice”, we will have flashbacks in colour showing it is now modern day. However, the girl will still have a 50’s look about her like her hair, make up or clothing. For example she might wear her hair in an ‘up-do’ or wear a high waisted skirt.

Our audience will be aimed at teens as Kate Nash is a young female singer/songwriter that sings about the love lives of many young teenage girls. We will therefore make sure the actors and actresses dress fashionably and try to show the audience the girl’s emotions which they will hopefully be able to connect to. We will have a cool party scene when the lines “so I went to that party…” are sung and then have a close up of the girl’s face showing her heartache in the flashback when “my heart it shattered” is heard.
