Katy Perry album cover analysis

Katy Perry’s album cover to ‘One of the Boys’ is very girly and has an old fashioned twist to it. The first thing I noticed was the name ‘Katy Perry’ which is in a typography which is reminiscent of the writing used in old 50’s adverts. It is bright pink which is a contrast to the blue of ‘One of the Boys’. The main focus is on her name and the photo of Katy Perry. The title of the album suggests that she feels comfortable in the presence of boys or that she is a bit promiscuous and is always with the boys she’s now part of their group. However, the rest of the album cover is a juxtaposition of this statement as it is very feminine with a lot of the colour pink and flowers. I think the image is based around a 1950’s wife with the white picket fence, record player, and clothes. There is also voyeurism here as she is dressed in short shorts and is lying across a sun lounger. So maybe the title of the album is saying boys would want her to be ‘one of them’ meaning they would want her to hang around with them. Her face is looking straight into the camera showing us that she is very confident and has nothing to hide.
