This is Adele’s album called ‘19’. The first thing that I notice is the black of the background and the outline around Adele’s face. The fact that we cannot see her whole face shows that she is hiding her true identity. Also, as her face is half in shadow, half in light means she could be hiding something or has a dark side to her character. Her eyes are closed too which supports the idea that she is hiding something as the eyes can reveal a person’s feelings but as we cannot see her, it means we are stopped from seeing her truth. Her eyes being closed could also signify that she doesn’t want to look at the world and is shutting herself out. It is a very simple CD cover with just block colour, the artist’s name, title and photo. The white of the name and title stands out against the harshness of the black. ‘ADELE’, is written in block capitals in a bold typography whereas ‘19’ looks more handwritten. This could reflect on the fact that the songs of the album are all written by her. I think that when this album was being produced/released, Adele herself was around the age of 19 which means the album could be about her life up to the age of 19.
