Final storyboards

These are our final storyboards complete with sketches of each shot, shot numbers, type of shots, dialogue/music and timings.

Storyboards

These are our original storyboards which we have used to film our animatic. We will be drawing another set which will be our final ones. We will use them for filming and will have all the necessary details listed like camera shots and camera movement.

Location photos

BATHROOM

"So I proceeded to get drunk and to cry and locked my self in the toilet for the entire night"
This is where we will film the girl crying after she sees the boy she likes kissing another girl.
HALL

"So I went to that party..."
This is where we will see the girl first entering the party scene.

LIVING ROOM

The scenes that take place in houses will mainly be filmed at Samantha's house as we have permission and there is a lot of space to film. The party scenes will be filmed in the living room, hall, kitchen, dining room and bathroom. We will also have the choice of filming in the garden. When the girl is in her bedroom, this will also be filmed in one of Samantha's bedrooms. Originally we were going to use two houses; one for the party and one for the girls house because the girl is not hosting the party. However, as we are only using the bedroom for the girl's house scenes and not for the party we decided it would be easier to use only one house.

Casting

For the main singer we have decided to cast Claudia Glynn as she has had very good experiences in both acting and singing. She is a very confident and bubble person that is happy to take part in the music video. We feel we can trust and rely on Claudia as she is responsible and will listen and maintain a high level of concentration and effort in what she has to do. For a number of years she has held a number of commitments like drama school and a choir group. She has performed in many shows, improving her live singing, dancing and acting skills along the way. As a result of this she finds it easy to follow a set script and can learn the lyrics of songs easily. Also, her studies in drama can allow her to connect with the character and understand her feelings in the words she sings about her love of the boy and then the heartbreak when he goes out with someone else. We hope that this means Claudia will be able to convey these feelings through facial expressions and body language. Overall, we feel Claudia can bring uniqueness to the character that we have not been able to imagine but she will take her role seriously and follow instructions.
We aim to give Claudia a 50’s edge with a simple piece of 50’s clothing or hair-do.

My Treatment

For my A2 media coursework I am creating a music video to Kate Nash’s song, ‘We Get On’. My group and I thought that this was a good choice as the story holds a narrative structure throughout the song. The singer tells her story to the audience so the audience is able to connect with her. For the video, we have some good and creative ideas as the lyrics are easy to visualize throughout the song.

For the music video we will have a visual representation of the lyrics so each scene will relate to what the song is about. It will therefore show a girl falling in love with a boy and wishing they could be together but she is scared of his reaction. She instead sings about her feelings for him and all the encounters they have had together. First of all, we will have the girl singing in a 1950’s bar as we are paying homage to Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. There will be a 50’s twist throughout the video surrounding the girl. In the bar scenes the girl will be singing the song on stage and this will be filmed in monochrome to show the change in time. When the girl then sings about her experiences with the guy she likes in hindsight, for example, “and that time you shook my hand, it felt so nice”, we will have flashbacks in colour showing it is now modern day. However, the girl will still have a 50’s look about her like her hair, make up or clothing. For example she might wear her hair in an ‘up-do’ or wear a high waisted skirt.

Our audience will be aimed at teens as Kate Nash is a young female singer/songwriter that sings about the love lives of many young teenage girls. We will therefore make sure the actors and actresses dress fashionably and try to show the audience the girl’s emotions which they will hopefully be able to connect to. We will have a cool party scene when the lines “so I went to that party…” are sung and then have a close up of the girl’s face showing her heartache in the flashback when “my heart it shattered” is heard.

Official letter to Polydor

This is the official letter typed up on headed paper at our school.

Research into indie pop

INDIE POP
Tegan and Sara

MGMT
The main genre of music we will be focusing on is indie pop which originated in the United Kingdom in the mid 80’s. It is a genre of alternative rock which has links to Scottish punk bands and the dominant UK independent band, The Smiths. The term “indie” was originally used to describe artists on independent labels. It first came onto the scene with the ‘post punk explosion’ in small shop-based record labels. In 1986 the C86 tape was released including a wide range of bands which reflected the new music scene in the UK.
Nowadays the top indie artists are the likes of Ladyhawke, Pigeon Detectives, We Are Scientists and Kate Nash. The main instruments used in indie pop are guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. The guitar and keyboard are featured heavily in most of Kate Nash’s song, the keyboard especially in ‘We Get On’, our chosen song.

Research on Kate Nash

Kate Nash is an English singer/songwriter from London. Her career first started in 2006 when she uploaded her material to MySpace after playing various gigs. Her genre of music is indie pop and she is known for her quirky songs and style. Her debut album 'Made of Bricks' reached top of the charts in the UK and went platinum. Her music is easy for the British public to connect to as she sings with a cockney twang to her voice in most songs and makes reference to everyday life in London. For example in her song 'Birds' she sings of the ticket inspectors at the train station and drinking "two bottles of bud".

As well as her music being very unique her fashion sense is very original as she mixes modern with vintage. This is something we want to show in our music video with our singer, Claudia. The top picture of Kate Nash in monochrome is similar to the image we have idealised for Claudia when she is singing in the 50's bar. We want her dressed up in black with inspiration from Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' which is similar the the Kate Nash photo. The photos shown below are images of Kate Nash looking very 50's with the skinny waist belts and polka dots. In our video, when Claudia is not in the 50's bar she will be in modern surrounding with everyone around her looking modern too. Claudia will dress in this way too but will have a Kate Nash/50's twist aswell experimenting with different colours or patterns. With each outfit there will be at least one statement 50's trademark like a high waisted skirt or polka dot patterned clothing. We may also do her hair and make up in a 50's style as the trade mark.

Lyric storyboard

Here we have written what costumes the girl will be wearing in each scene.

These lyric storyboards describe the action happening in each line. For those without any writing, the last action will continue through these lines.

These are our lyrics with brief notes on the action that will be taking place in each part of the song.
