Final Song Choice
We decided that our song choice will be Kate Nash's 'We Get On'. This is because it has a good narrative that we can follow. It has a rather youthful and innocent feel to it rather than Duffy's more grown up and heart felt song. It is very quirky and we feel we can produce a fun music video. This song does not already have a music video either.

Song Choices...
We have come up with a few possible song choices for our music video. We have decided to look at female soloists that are all from the pop type genre.
Avril Lavigne-Things I'll Never Say
This song has really nice lyrics and follows a story. "I’m tugging at my hair, I’m pulling at my clothes". This is an example of some of the lyrics and it would be easy to have shots of the girl doing these actions. We could visualise what was going on in the first verse but as the song went on this became more difficult.

Avril Lavigne-Anything But Ordinary
I like this song because the singer is singing directly to the audience allowing them to connect with her because she is sharing her story with them. "I laugh myself to sleep it's my lullaby". The tempo of the song is rather slow but it gradually speeds up and we think this will increase the difficulty of lip synching.

Kate Nash-Birds
This song has a nice narrative which follows the story of a girl meeting her boyfriend at a train station and their jourey where the boy tells her how he feels about her but uses birds to explain himself. "And make you feel well scared but when you look at them and you see that they're beautiful that's how I feel about you". However, this song is very slow and repetitive and would be a challenge to produce a video.

Lily Allen-Shame For You
This song has a narrative about the singer saying she won't take her ex back and she insults his throughout the song like, "You'll be crying like a baby". This song however, has unsuitable lyric meanings.

Duffy-I'm Scared
This song has beautiful lyrics that address the singer's partner that has left her and she sings about how life has changed at their home. It follows a simple story and the lyrics are very easy to visualise. "Coffee stains on your favorite book remind me of you so I can't take a look." I can see her wandering around the house looking very upset in a white shirt he left behind showing her innocence in the situation and how she wants to remain close to him.

Kate Nash-We Get On
This is a very upbeat song but has slow lyrics which should be easy to lip synch. It has a good narrative throughout the song which you are able to visualise easily. "And when I saw you kissing that girl my heart, it shattered...". For this we could have the girl walking in on them and a close up of her face.

Case-Study- Kylie Minogue
KYLIE MINOGUE

I Should Be So Lucky
Kylie Minogue has been in the music industry for over 20 years after finding fame on Australian soap, Neighbours. One of her first singles was 'I should be so lucky' and the video focuses on her as an artist. She is the only one to appear in the video and we see her as an ordinary girl hanging around her house singing about love. Her hair is tied up in a big scrunchie giving her an innocent and childish image. She is also seen staring at a photograph of a male which also shows how she has a 'puppy dog' love. This would invite a teenage girl audience as she is relating to them through showing their dreams of a nice house, clothes and partner come true for her; an ordinary girl. She would attract male attention too through voyerism as she is shown wearing a strapless top and there are clips of her in a bubble bath blowing the suds showing a playful side.
Breathe
Kylie has now released a number of albums and has lost her 'girl next door' image. This video focuses a lot more on her voyerism as there are many close up of her eyes and mouth which would attract a male audience. She is still able to connect with her fans because the camera is so close meaning the audience will feel they are near her. Kylie also looks into the camera meaning the audience feel she is talking to them.
Spinning Around
This single is from Kylie's "comeback" album 'Light Years' and this video shows how she has totally transformed herself into a mature and voyeristic female wearing skimpy tops and gold hotpants. She is seen to be dancing throughout the video in a club showing her fun side to her female audience but grabs male attention when dancing promiscuously with a male. She is seen to be very popular as everyone begins to dance with her and she is the main one of the group.
Red Blooded Woman
This video shows Kylie to be very provocative as she dances sexily in the beginnning of the video. She seems to be getting males attention in the cars as she walks down the road which is how she might attract her male audience. Again she keeps female fans by being shown as a dominant and popular female as she is centre of attention amongst the males and is shown to be a great dancer. She is seen in a red outfit which shows the audience that she can be both passionate and dangerous.
In My Arms
This video shows Kylie in many different outfits, some being reminiscent of the 90s and some looking quite futuristic. This is keeping up with the youth of today that are wearing bright colours and looking unique. As she has been around for 20 years her image has changed every so often to keep attracting audiences. Today, the fashion has changed into a more whacky style which is seen in this video as Kylie is wearing an oversized black and white checked hood with large purple and black sunglasses.

Music Video
For my A2 coursework I am in a group of three with two other girls, Sinead and Samantha. Together we are aiming to produce a music video of a song of our choice with a CD cover and magazine advertisement. We are now in the process of looking for songs which do not already have a music video.

Music videos-Andrew Goodwin's Theory
Andrew Goodwin has created a theory which identifies key features that appear in all music videos. These features are;
- There is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals of the video where the visuals either amplify, illustrate or contradict the lyrics.
- There is a relationship between the music and visuals of the video where the visuals either amplify, illustrate or contreadict the lyrics.
- Close-ups of the artist are used as way of giving them publicity.
- Voyerism is used to promote the artist and the song (mainly females)
- Intertexuality may also be used to entice fans. These may be references to TV shows or films.
From Goodwin's theory we can conclude that he believes music videos are used as a promotional tool for the single being released. It is also used to boost the popularity of the artist and this is shown through voyerism.
