Final poster and CD cover

This is the final copy of the front and back of our CD cover. We have edited the back cover so that it contains the contents which is the song and video and it's length. We have also taken away the still shots of Claudia and replaced it with a posed picture. She is wearing a red dress which connotates love. Behing her we have places an image of Katie, the singer as we felt that as she is seen to be the singer in the video, her image should be included on the CD. We have used a still shot of her singing to show that is what she does in relation to the song. We have photoshopped the two images together and have purposely put Katie behind showing she is from the past and also because she is Claudia's idol. We have kept Katie in monochrome to show she is from the past and Claudia in colour as she is modern day. The two juxtapose eachother and viewers are able to distinguish them. We have also added in Kate Nash's record label's logo which is 'Fiction'.

We have made changes to our poster too as we changed the image of Claudia as we said we would and it looks much more realistic that she is holding onto the ropes and her legs are down. Her dress looks much more 50's inspired too which sticks with our original goal which was to show her to be a 50's fan. We also added in a web address which directs fans to Kate Nash's myspace where they are able to download and play her music. This is now seen a lot on music advertisements which is why we added it in.

Filming-50's scene

We have began filming the performance based part of our video. We are using Katie as the singer as she knows the song very well and will therefore be a good lip syncher. Originally we planned on having Claudia seen throughout the whole music video but due to work commitments and illness she was unable to learn the song in time. As we now have two different girls in the video it may become slightly confusing as to who they are in relation to each other but we have come up with the idea that Katie is a famous 50's singer whom Claudia idolises. This is where Claudia gets her inspiration from to dress with a 50's twist. We are planning on showing Claudia looking at a photograph of Katie at the end of the video to show the link.
This scene is meant to be set in a jazz bar so we have filmed it in our school hall in front of the stage which has a red curtain. The red curtain is effective as the colour red connotates the notion of love and passion which is what the song is primarily about. The curtain itself shows it is a perfromance. We had problems finding an old fashioned microphone so had to use a more modern one. We followed our storyboard to know what shots we needed and how to position the camera. We played the song on the stereo and had Katie sing along with the song so that when it come to editing we will hopefully be able to slot the music and visuals together easily so the lip synching is accurate. We started with a long shot and decided to film Katie singing the whole song so that we had extra footage to use if anything went wrong and we needed to fill the gaps with something else. We then filmed the whole song again but this time with a mid-shot so we were following the storyboard and allowing ourselves various shots to use. There were particular moments in the song where we done close-ups of Katie's face to show the emotion of the song at that time. For the lyrics of 'and my eyes they watered', we had a close up where Katie looked really sad. When it got to the part of 'and my friends were like whatever...', we told Katie to look angry as she sang this part of the song. We also experiemented using an up tilt to give Katie status however the microphone blocked her face a bit so it would not be as effective. As we used a lot of different shots we have given ourselves a lot of creative freedom when it comes to editing as we will be able to use various shots which will make it more visually interesting to watch.
We dressed Katie in a 50's inspired black and white polka dot dress which had a flowing A-line skirt. She wore vintage heels with a red belt and lipstick to connotate love. Overall, her image did look very 50's and we tried to keep in mind the image of Audrey Hepburn which I think did work.
I have shown some still shots of the filming below. We are using Adobe Premiere Pro to edit our film and as you can see we have made it monochrome to fit in with the 50's effect. We also want to use it to distinguish the different time periods as Claudia is modern day and will therefore be in colour. At first we had trouble finding where the monochrome effect was as there were many different folders of effects and so we searched it in the 'help' box and found it under Transitions/effects. We also added a grainy effect to make the film look slightly older.

Production logo

This is the production logo we have created for our company so that our CD cover and poster looks more professional. We created it using Adobe Photoshop. Originally we used the mouse cursor but we thought it wasn't visible enough so we used a black oval shape with a ripple effect. As we have the 'Click' title and cursor we thought the ripple effect ties in well with a fingertip touching water. We then added in 'Click productions' and curved it to fit in the oval shape. Originally we only used 'Click' but then thought that if the poster was to appear on the internet it would make the audience think it was a hyperlink that led to another page rather than it being a logo.

CD poster

This is an update of our poster is coming along. We have used the same background as the CD cover so that there is a recognisable link between the two for the audience. For this however we have more of a long shot and have included a swing.
We have produced almost all the detail on photoshop except the wooden seat of the swing and the rope. We began by using various layers for each piece of artwork. We filled in the background with blue to use as the sky. We then created the tree, grass, flowers and robin by using various Adobe photoshop tools. To give it the fairytale theme we were after, using photoshop, we placed leaves and butterflies up and around the rope of the swing. We feel that this also relates to the bubbly image of Kate Nash and resembles her CD covers in a way as she always uses cartoon drawings. For her album cover she had a real image of her placed into a drawing of a brick house and this is what we too have done in our CD cover and poster. In the poster we have her sittingon the swing in a 50's style polka dot dress. However, we are planning on taking another photo of Claudia wearing a red polka dot dress as the colour would connotate the feeling of love. It would also go well with the red of the flowers and robin. We also want her to have her legs down instead of crossed and her arms held put as if she was holding the ropes. When this is done, using photoshop we can adjust it to make it look as though Claudia and the swing are one image. This will will up the large gaps we have at the moment aswell. We have put reviews of the album to encourage people to buy it and informed them of the release date.

CD cover

This is the front and back of our CD cover. We have created a fairytale and childlike theme much like Kate Nash does with her CD covers. We done this by continuing to use Adobe Photoshop and created a cartoon background. This links into the fairytale theme and that the story of Claudia is much like that of a fairytale/love story. With the front cover we have photoshopped an image of Claudia to show she is in the fairytale and that the story is about her. With the writing we have made it childlike by making it look untidy. We done this by using block capitals and rotating each letter individually and moving it higher or lower so it doesn't flow in a straight line.
With the back cover we have placed in some still shots from the video and blurred the sides to show snap shots of her life giving it a scrapbook effect. We have also added in the reviews which are shown on the poster but here they are a lot smaller.
We have added in a parental advisory label as some of Nash's lyrics are explicit and also a barcode and Click Productions logo.

Editing

As we have started to film parts of our music video we have uploaded the tape onto MyBook which is an external hard-drive where we are saving our project. Once we uploaded it we began to cut the unnecessary clips on Adobe Premiere Pro. We have chosen the clips that look more effective because of the use of lighting or what it reveals to the audience about the character.
So far we have began cutting the CSI, spy and bedroom scenes and putting them in the right order. Once we have filmed the other scenes we shall fill in the gaps of the film with the correct scenes. We are filming and editing as we go along as we feel this is easier so we are not left with a huge amount of editing in the end and hopefully the work will look more professional with a longer time period.
We are going to re-film the spy scene of Claudia leaving the house as it is much too dark to keep the viewers attention on what is happening.

Still Shots

These are some still shots from our filming.
This is a still shot of Claudia, who plays the main girl, leaving her house when out looking for the boy. We dressed Claudia all in black with big sunglasses and a hat to obscure her face as we wanted her to look like a detective. We also see her putting a newspaper into her bag which will be used later on when she is seen peering over it to watch the boy. We came up with this idea on the day as we thought it would add humour to the piece because the song overall sounds very lighthearted. We may have to re-film these shots as we had originally planned on her bumping into the boy in daylight and the lighting in this scene is not very good.

This shot shows Claudia getting ready to go out in the spy scene. This was not on our original storyboard but on the day of filming our original idea was rather simple; a long shot of her. So, we decided to experiment filming her look into the mirror and then another looking into the camera so it feels as though the audience/camera is the mirror. This is so we had a variation of shots and more material to work with.

This is a close up of Claudia when she sings the lyrics 'his eyes are way too close together' to show the audience her emotions regarding the boy.

This is a still shot of Claudia watching CSI on television which is shown with the lyrics 'Saturday night I watched channel 5, I particularly like CSI...' This scene comes after she has been left heartbroken by the boy and we are showing how she is reacting to this when she is alone. We can refer back to this photograph for continuity if we want to add in more shots to this scene.

This is a still shot of Claudia talking about the boy to one of her friends. This is to show the audience that she has people around her who she can talk to if anything goes wrong. This can be seen as a social message to the audeince which is to talk about things that are going on in your life and express your feelings to those who are close to you.
We used a high angle shot for this scene to use more creative ideas to get all the action in like Claudia, her friend on the mise en scene. As the singer is feeling quite vulnerable here as she still hasn't got the boy she wants, we decided to show this through the camera angle as the audience are looking down on her giving them status over her.

This is a long shot of Claudia in the bathroom after she has seen the boy she likes with someone else. We decided to film her in a bathroom so that the video follows the narrative of the song. 'So I locked myself in the toilets for the entire night...' This scene shows how upset she is at this discovery as she is seen to be crying and leaning on the wall for support. This can relate to any teenager's heartbreak of not getting the person they want.
